Soapstone is a natural stone mostly made of talc.  Due to its composition it is a very soft material that is prone to starch.  It comes in more uniformed patterned with less sheen primarily green, grey or black with soft white veining.  It is recommend to use mineral spirit to seal it. Soapstone name comes from its softness and soap like characteristic. Although it is soft and very easy to carve its  nonporous.  Furthermore it has  low electrical conductivity and it is heat resistant and its resistant to acids and alkalis.
